भएको एउटा बाटो लाई मोडेर,
मलाई यहाँ ल्याएर अल्पत्र पार्ने तिमी अमेरिका,
तिम्रो नाम मा आज म आन्दोलन गर्छु,
शब्द मै भए पनि तिम्रो म बिरोध गर्छु,
अमेरिका मलाई मेरो ५ बर्ष फिर्ता दे !
म आफ्नै देश फर्किन्छु ।

न मलाई उता को हुन दियौ,
न त आफ्नो नै बनायौ,

Note from the filmmakers

This is a story about a girl who has recently moved to a new country and gets bullied by her schoolmates almost everywhere she goes, even online. She has no one to talk to, her parents are busy working and she hurts herself emotionally and even attempts suicide. With help from the counselor and friends that she meets from her own country she eventually gets out of depression and also stops being bullied.

She is lucky to get that support. Hundreds of people get bullied and a lot of them commit suicide. Do not stand by and watch others be bullied.

Nilanjana Rana is a doctor by profession yet loves music. She started singing from an early age at Radio Nepal. Her first album “Sounds from my Heart” has slow rock music and features melodious songs with Nhyoo Bajracharya’s music composition. She has been donating proceeds from the sale of the album to a school for under privileged children in Bhaktapur, Nepal.

Cosmetics do not tend to have expiry date. However, they are not required by law to have expiry date which can be complicated to understand when your cosmetics actually expires. Don’t get disheartened because I will be giving you expiry dates for cosmetics today. For your information, I will focus on both fashion and  beauty in this new column.

 

Foundations -Cream foundation -18 month and Liquid foundation (oil free) -12 months
Extra tip: If your water-based foundation dries out before it’s expiry date, add a few drops of alcohol-free toner and shake to mix it in.

Concealer - will last up to 12 months.

Cream & gel cleansers - 1 year. 

Pencil eye liner - will last up to 3 years.

Eye liner (liquid) - 3 to 6 months

Eyeshadow –  Powder eyeshadow - up to 3 years and Cream eyeshadow – 12 months
Extra tip: A dark eyeshadow can double as eyeliner and most of the makeup artists actually use them as eyeliner. Use a little damp super-flat eyeliner brush and dab in dark eyeshadow (black or brown) and apply it on your eyes.

Make-up Brushes - Wash every 2-3 months in a mild detergent. 

Make-up Sponges - Wash weekly and discard monthly. 

Lip liner - Up to 3 years.
Extra tip: Do not buy push-up lipliners as they’re expensive, tend to break and you never really know how much you have left until you run out.

Lipstick - 1 to 2 years, some say 4 years as well
Extra tip: If you store lipstick in the refrigerator, it will last longer.Another way to make lipstick last longer during the day is to apply lip liner first and afterwards lipstick.

Lipgloss - 18 months

Mascara - Mascara expires fastest so throw out after 4 months.
Extra tip: If you don’t want your mascara to expire faster than its fresh date, don’t pump the wand in and out as you’re only exposing the product to drying air.

Nail Polish - Up to 12 months

Blush - Powder blush – up to 2 years and Cream blush – 12 months

From the time you open it, the life and effectiveness of the product decreases and bacteria grows. Treat makeup products with care. Keep them in a dry, cool area and remember any cosmetic that changes texture, or smell, should be discarded immediately. Do take care of your make-up brushes. Fashion, in my opinion, is a powerful and creative tool which assist people to express their personality, individuality and sets them apart from the rest. Every fall comes with variety of fashion trends. Yet, there is no compulsion for us to follow every single trend that becomes popular. In my perspective, before following any fashion trend, people need to assess whether it suits their personality, body shape and more importantly themselves or not. In the wake of the s/s 2012 trends prediction, I have decided to forecast the s/s 2012 trends in my first post and showcase some of the trends I will be definitely following this year.

Pencil skirt worn in the above picture is one of the trends I believe will be popular in S/S 2012. Stripes are yet back in fashion again this year. It’s worth investing in these skirts as you can wear ‘in office’ and ‘out of office’.

Always have one white outfit in your closet for summer. White colour outfit does not absorb heat like black ones and will keep you cool during summer. I’ll be wearing this shoulder white dress to keep myself cool from the summer heat.

Spots/Polka dots are one of the trends I assume will be quite popular this summer. Stella McCartney’s sheer spots/polka dress was hugely popular among the fashionistas last year. Also Blazers has been in fashion circuit for few years now and bear in mind, they are here to stay for a while.

Prints will be one of the popular trend in fashion circuit. Beautiful soft prints, like the one worn above will be all over the high street this summer. The big brands such as Versace, Prabal Gurung and Burberry have already showcased amazing prints for this fall. You will not regret buying prints this summer.

Invest in lace this summer. You can buy from lace top to dress. Kate Middleton has been seen wearing lace recently. Lace is very feminine and will make you look classy. I will be wearing lace top, shown on picture above with beautiful pleated polka dotted skirt.

Colour blocking (clashing two bright outfits) is what I will be doing this summer with my outfits. Yes, it was a big hit last year and I still can’t get over it. I will definitely play with colourful outfits this summer. Given the miserable economic conditions, I think we need to at least put some effort to brighten our outfit and put a smile in this ‘doom’ and ‘gloom’  economic environment.

Well, these are some of the trends I will be following this summer. Please do not hesitate to share your fashion trends for S/S 2012. Till then Sayonara, Adios, Goodbye and most importantly ‘Feri Bhetaula’. Thank you for reading this painfully long article.

(During the last week of June, 1995, this author had happened to the ILO Headquarter, Geneva to attend a week-long field work in connection of a short training on “Productivity in Small Enterprises” organized by ILO. The training was organized at International Training Center of ILO at Turin, Italy. While passing through those big monuments of black slaves of Africa, carved on the black stone on the main entrance of the Headquarter in Geneva the author had felt very uneasiness and paused for a few minutes to get in. The uneasiness is yet to be healed up when the scene appears in memory. The few lines jotted down here on those monuments of the slaves were an outcome of the feelings.)

Don’t ask how I came across it. The only thing that matters is that I did. Titled “Kathmandu 6 Decades ago” on the site, it is an eight minute long B/W footage documenting about Nepal and as the name suggests, was shot some 60 years ago according to what the user has claimed. The short film is called “Gateway To The Himalayas”.

When I went through the video for the first time, I couldn’t help but be fascinated because it’s not every day that you get to see the activities of our people in the country during the time you didn’t exist. This video sure is like travelling back in time. It also gives us an idea about how westerners perceived our cultures and traditions. Hence, I couldn’t be more grateful to the person who posted the visual.

Here’s what the user had to say about the video as its description:

“This is a video that introduced Nepal to the world. This 1954 film is one of the first videos made for the purpose of educating the Western World about Nepal. Interesting point to note is that videos like these played a major role in propagating misinformation about our Culture and Lifestyle as they were shown in schools. Although the video presents a biased western view which ridicules the Nepali customs and uses words like primitive and savagery to describe the Nepali culture, it is an interesting look at the life of people in Kathmandu during that era. Don’t take the video too seriously, don’t get offended and enjoy this rare footage that shows the Nepali People and Kathmandu during the 1950′s. I hope you guys enjoy it.”
