न्यु योर्क ,मे १७ , ३१ औं एएनए सम्मेलनका संचार संयोजक सुर्य थापाले एक प्रेस बिज्ञप्ति जारी गर्दै हाल ए एन ए का मुख्य संयोजक समीर महर्जन निश्चित उदेश्यको साथ बिभिन्न ब्यक्त्तित्वहरुलाई भेटघाट गर्न तथा निमंत्रणा दिन दुई हप्ते नेपाल भ्रमणमा रहेको जानकारी दिएका छन् l उक्त बिज्ञप्तिमा जानकारी गराउदै सम्मेलनलाई ऐतिहासिक बनाउने अठोट तथा व्यापक सूचना प्रदान गर्ने उदेश्यको साथ मे १६ विहीबार काठमाडौँमा मुख्य संयोजक समीर महर्जनले एक पत्रकार सम्मेलनको आयोजना गरेका छन् । मुख्य संयोजक महर्जनले हामीलाई देशले के दियो भन्दा पनि हामीले देशलाई के दियौं भन्ने अहम् प्रश्नलाई केन्द्रविन्दुमा राखेर यसपटक अमेरिकामा रहेका नेपालीहरुले मुलुकको आर्थिक समृद्धिका लागि सोच्न लागेको बताएका छन् l

उक्त पत्रकार भेटघाट कार्यक्रममा सांस्कृतिक, साहित्यिक, सांगीतिक गतिविधि, खेलकुद, खाना महोत्सवका अलावा सांस्कृतिक परेड, प्रतिभा प्रतियोगिता प्रदर्शन, व्यान्ड प्रतिस्पर्धा (संगीत मण्डली )र गोष्ठीहरुको आयोजना गर्न लागिएको जानकारी दिए l३१ औ ए एन ए सम्मेलनमा नेपालबाट मन्त्रीस्तरीय प्रतिनिधित्व रहने बताउँदै महर्जनले नेपाल उद्योग वाणिज्य महासंघका सुरज बैद्य ,नेपाल उद्योग परिसंघ, नेपाल अमेरिका चेम्वर अफ कमर्स जस्ता संस्थाहरुको संस्थागत सहभागिता रहने पनि जानकारी दिए l  उक्त छापा बिज्ञप्तिमा संचार संयोजक थापाले उल्लेख गर्दै उद्योगपति सुरज बैध्य लगायत ८-१० जना ब्यबसायी सहित ब्यापारिक प्रबर्धन गर्न आउने निश्चित गरेको जानकारी गराईएको छ l

यसै गरि उक्त छापा बिज्ञप्तिमा संचार संयोजक सुर्य थापाले बिसेष जानकारी गराउदै सम्मेलनमा नेपालका लागि अमेरिकी राजदूत पिटर बोडेको पनि विशेष सहभागिता रहने र सम्मेलनलाई सम्बोधन गर्ने निधो भएको उल्लेख गरेका छन् l  नेपालको वर्तमान राजनैतिक अवस्था र विकास सम्बन्धिमा पनि अन्तरक्रिया कार्यक्रम समेतमा सहभागी हुन् सक्ने जानकारी दिइएको छ । उक्त सम्मेलनमा अमेरिकाका लागि नेपाली महामहिम राजदूत डा शंकर प्रसाद शर्माको पनि बिशेष सहभागिता हुने छ l उक्त पत्रकार सम्मेलनमा नेपालको भ्रमणमा रहनु भएका अवैतनिक नेपाली महावाणिज्यदूत प्ररेमराजा महतले एएनए अमेरिकामा रहेका नेपालीहरुको छाता संस्था रहेको बताउँदै यसले नेपाल र अमेरिकालाई जोड्ने भावनात्मक पुलको काम गर्दै आएको विचार व्यक्त गरेको जनाईएको छ l

एएनए नेपाल ग्रामिण विकासका  प्रमुख डा. सुदीप श्रेष्ठले एएनएको ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमीको चर्चा गर्दै सन् १९८३ मा न्यूयोर्कमा स्थापना भएको अमेरिकाकै एक पुरानो संस्था भएको जानकारी दिनु भएको चर्चा गरिएको छ lनेपालमा एएनए नेपाल नामक संस्था दर्ता गरी एकलाख डलरको योजना सुरु गरेको जानकारी गराएको पनि उल्लेख गरिएको छ । र उक्त कार्यक्रममा ए एन ए नेपाल ग्रामिण विकासका शुभ चिन्तक तथा मेरो देश मेरो लगानीका संस्थापक तथा समाज सेवी महाबिर पुनको पनि उपस्थिति रहेको थियो l

यस क्रममा महर्जनले अर्थमन्त्री शंकर कोइराला, नेपालका लागि अमेरिकी राजदूत पिटर बोडे, नेपाल उद्योग वाणिज्य महासंघ, नेपाल उद्योग परिसंघको नेतृत्वसँग भेट गरी सहभागिताका लागि औपचारिक निम्तो दिनु भएको र शुभकामना सन्देशका लागि राष्टपति, सरकार प्रमुख र मूख्य राजनीतिक दलका शिर्षस्थ नेताहरुसँग पनि भेटघाट क्रमलाई अगाडि बढाइदै गरेको उल्लेख गरिएको छ l एएनएको ३० औं डालास सम्मेलन २०१२ मा पहिलो पटक अमेरिकी राष्टपति वराक ओवामाले सम्मेलनको सफलताको कामना गर्दै लिखित शुभकामना सन्देश दिनु भएको थियो । यो नेपालीप्रतिको ठूलो सम्मान र उपलव्धी हो ।

यसै गरि साहित्य अनुरागीहरुको लागि ए एन ए साहित्य प्रतिस्ठानको पहलमा अन्तरराष्ट्रिय नेपाली कविता प्रतियोगिता वरिस्ठ अधिवक्ता तथा महोत्सव संयोजक बिनोद रोकाको नेतृत्वमा कविता महोत्सवको भब्य तैयारी गरिएको जानकारी दिइएको छ lअन्तरराष्ट्रिय नेपाली कविता प्रतियोगितामा प्रथम, दोश्रो र तेश्रो स्थान प्राप्त गर्ने स्रष्टालाई प्रथम पुरस्कार एक हजार यु एस डलर र प्रमाण पत्र ,दोश्रो पुरस्कार ,तीन  सय यु एस डलर र प्रमाण पत्र र तेश्रो पुरस्कार दुई सय यु एस डलर र प्रमाण पत्र दिइने जानकारी गराईएको छ l

गैर आवाशीय संघ ,राष्ट्रिय समन्वय समिति अमेरिकाको यहि मे २५ र २६ तारिखमा अमेरिकाको लस एन्जेलसमा अधिवेसन हुदै छ र त्यसै अधिवेसन सम्बन्धि तथा र अन्य समसामयिक बिषयमा एन आर एन अमेरिकाका अधक्ष्य प्रल्हाद केसी संग विजय थापाले लिएको अन्तर्वार्ता ,

१ ) एन आर एन अमेरिकाको बार्षिक अधिवेसन मे २५ र २६ हुदै छ ? कत्तिको तैयारीमा हुनु हुन्छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : दुई दिने अधिवेसन सोचेको भन्दा राम्रो हुने छ lसमुह दिन रात मेहनत गरि रहेको छ र यसको सफलताको लागि १३ वटा स्थानीय संस्थाहरु र २२ वटा संस्थागत संस्थाको साझेदारीमा हुने भएकोले कार्यक्रम उदेश्यमुलक हुने छ l

२)लस एञ्जलस सम्मेलनलाई ऐतिहासिक अधिवेसन हुने छ भनि घोषणा पनि संचार माध्यममा देखिएकोले यो सम्मेलन सफल हुने कुरामा कत्तिको विश्वास राख्नु भएको छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : अधिवेसन हुनु भन्दा अगाडी देखि नै कार्यसूची तैयार गरिएको  र जल्दो बल्दो समस्यामा छलफल गर्ने र सबैलाई समेट्ने हुनाले यो सम्मेलन ऐतिहासिक हुने छ भन्ने कुरामा म विश्वस्त छु lनेपाल र प्रवासमा साझा उदेश्यको साथ काम गर्ने मूल मन्त्र अगि सारेका छौ l सम्पर्क ,एकता र सफलता भन्ने नाराले यो अधिवेसन कोसे ढुंगा साबित गर्ने छ l

३ ) हरेक अधिवेसनका मुख्य एजेन्डा (कार्यसूची )हुन्छन भने यहाँले यो सम्मेलन मा के के बुदामा बिशेष मुद्दाहरु उठाउनु हुने छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : ४ -५ वटा बिषयमा केन्द्रित हुने छौ ,एन आर एन अमेरिका ,रोजगारीको लागि संजाल निर्माण तथा ब्यबसायिक विकासको लागि पूलको काम गर्ने छ ,दोहोरो नागरिकता ,दुई देश बीच रहेको दोहोरो कर सन्धि सम्बन्धमा सचेतना जागृत गर्ने ,अमेरिकन नेपालीहरुको लागि राजनैतिक तथा सरकारी स्तरमा  सशक्तिकरण प्रबर्धन गर्ने तथा नेपालमा लगानी सम्बन्धमा एन आर एन अमेरिकाले बृहत छलफल गर्ने   छ l

४ ) किन दोहोरो नागरिकताको लागि पछि परि रहनु भएको छ ?राजनैतिक दल बिना सम्भव छ त ?

प्रल्हाद केसी :  यसको लागि सबै ए आर एन एक ढिक्का हुनु पर्ने हुन्छ र हामीले यो कुरालाई त्यागेका छैनौ l मेरो नेपाल भ्रमणमा पनि सबै राजनीतिक दलका नेता तथा सम्बन्धित निकायका व्यक्तित्वसंग यो कुरा उठाएकोछु l घच घचाउने हाम्रो काम हो र यस बिषयमा हामी गम्भीर छलफल गर्ने छौ  l

५ ) बिश्व ,गैर आवाशीय सघको आगामी सम्मेलन नेपालमा हुदै छ ? र एन आर एन अमेरिकाको के भूमिका रहन्छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी :राम्रो प्रश्न राख्नु भयो ,नेपालमा गैर आवाशीय संघको सम्मेलन नेपालमा हुदैछ l अगाडीको सम्मेलनमा अमेरिकाले कुनै उल्लेखनीय पद हात पारेन lअमेरिकाको अहम भूमिका रहेको थियो l अमेरिका सम्पूर्ण बिश्व कै नेतृत्व गर्ने राष्ट्र हो l हाम्रो नेतृत्व कालमा बिगतका कमजोरी , तमाम बाकी रहेका कामलाई प्राथमिकताको साथ फत्ते गर्दै अगि बढी रहेका छौ lएन आर एन अमेरिकाको स्थिती परिवर्तन र बिश्वमा नया संदेश पुगेको सर्वबिदितै छ l  तसर्थ अब अमेरिकाले एन आर एन विश्वमा नेतृत्व गर्नु पर्छ भने हाम्रो सोच रहेको छ र अमेरिकाले नेतृत्व लिनु पर्छ भन्दा कुनै अन्याय हुदैन जस्तो लाग्दछ l

६ ) एन आर एन अमेरिका निकै क्रियाशील देखिएको छ र सबैले अमेरिकाको आशा गरेका हुन्छन भने यहाँले नेतृत्व देखाई पनि सक्नु भएको छ भने अब अन्तर राष्ट्रियको नेतृत्वमा जाने बारे केहि सोच बनाउनु भएको छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : हाम्रो नेतृत्व काल देखि नै धेरै कुराको परिवर्तन भएको जस्तो हामीलाई लागेको छ l अमेरिकामा बसोबास गर्ने प्रवाशीहरुको समस्यालाई प्रथम प्राथमिकताको साथ लिइएको छ lर अगाडी नै मैले भने अमेरिकाले अब नेतृत्व लिने समय आएको छ lत्यसको लागि हामीले वातावरण बनाउनु पर्छ र अमेरिकाले किन नलिने भन्ने नै एन आर एन अमेरिकाको सवाल रहन्छ lसरसल्लाह र सुझाब लिने क्रम जारी छ lत्यो नेतृत्व भन्दा पनि मे २५-२६ मा हुने अधिवेसनमा ज्यादा ध्यान मोडिएको छ lफरक यति हो ,बिश्व ,एन आर एन संघको लागि थप उत्तर दायित्व बहन गर्नु पर्ने हुन्छ l

७ ) नेतृत्वको दिनु भयो भने के के मुद्दाहरु लिएर जानु हुनेछ र अहिले सम्म संस्था नै दर्ता भएको छैन ? के भन्नु हुन्छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : गैर आवाशीय संघ अहिले सम्म पनि दर्ता हुन नसकेकोमा दुख लाग्नु स्वाभाविक हुन्छ lनेपालमा दर्ता गराउने ,बिधान संसोधनका कुराहरु ,हाम्रा लगानीका सुरक्षा ,दोहोरो नागरिकताका ,दूइ देश बीच रहेका सन्धिका बिषय ,संगठित ,पारदर्शिता,समाबेसी र समन्वय आदि ईत्यादीलाई प्राथमिकताको साथ लैजाने बिचार रहेको छ l

८ ) चुनाब बिषयमा अझ बिबादास्पद छ र आयु लम्बाउने चाहना त हैन ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : विजय जी अति समसामयिक प्रसंग उठाउनु भयो ,एन आर एन अमेरिकामा धेरै पुरानो छैन l संस्थागत रुपमा पूर्ण बिकशित भै सकेको छैन भन्दा अतिसयोक्ति नहोला र थुप्रै समस्याले जकडिएको रहेछ lआफुले नेतृत्व लिए पछि सर्वप्रथम यो संस्थालाई जोगाउनु पर्ने परम कर्तब्य थियो l अस्तितित्व नमेटियोस भनेर नेतृत्व पश्च्यात कमि कमजोरीको रुपमा रहेका सदश्य सुची तैयार  ,हाउस अफ डेलिगेसन ,बिधान अनुसार सदश्य भन्दा ,हाउस अफ डेलिगेसनबाट नेतृत्व चयन हुने बैधानिकता रहेकोले त्यो मूल समस्या भएकोले त्यसको लागि पहल ,आर्थिक पारदर्शिताको सवालमा हिसाब किताब चुस्त र दुरुस्त ,बिधान संसोधनको लागि बृहत गृहकार्य गर्न समय खर्च गर्नु पर्यो lयो अधिवेसन समाप्त पश्च्यात वातावरण निर्माण गर्दै उचित समयमा चुनावको मितिको घोषणा गर्ने आफ्नो सोच रहेको र अरु सबै काम पूर्ण भएको छ l कुर्शीको आयु लम्ब्याउने नभै संस्थागत विकासको लागि यी अनिवार्य भएकोले आउदो अधिवेसनमा यी सबै कुराको जानकारी दिने तरखरमा छौ l

८ ) अन्त्यमा ,बिसेष को को व्यक्तित्वहरुको सहभागिता हुने कुरामा बिस्वस्त हुनु हुन्छ र सबैलाई के संदेश दिनु हुन्छ ?

प्रल्हाद केसी : सयुक्त राष्ट्र संघका कार्यवाहक स्थाई प्रतिनिधि महामहिम सेवा अधिकारी ,जापानबाट एन आर एन का पुर्व अधक्ष्य देव मान हिराचन ,नेपालबाट एन आर एन अन्तरराष्ट्रियका संरक्षक भिम उदास ,पुर्व मन्त्रि डा राजेश काजी श्रेष्ठ ,अमेरिकाका लागि  महामहिम राजदूत शंकर प्रसाद शर्मा आदि व्यक्तित्वहरुको सहभागिता रहने छ भने विदेशमा बस्ने सबै नेपालीहरुको छाता संगठन भएकोले अधक्ष्यको नाताले सबैलाई निमंत्रना गर्दै सहभागिता जनाई यसलाई ऐतिहासिक बनाई दिनु हुन् आग्रह गर्दछु l

यहि जुलाई ४-६ सम्म न्यु योर्कमा हुने ३१ औ ए एन ए सम्मेलनको भब्य तैयारी भै रहेको छ । सम्मेलनको मूल नारा नै ‘३१ औ ए एन ए सम्मेलन नेपालको लागि ‘राखिएको छ । यो संस्थामा सबै नेपालीको साझा फुलबारी हो lयसका धेरै शुभ चिन्तकहरु पनि छन् र त्यस मध्ये यो संस्थाका एक शुभ चिन्तक प्रख्यात पर्वतारोही आङ्ग छिरिङ्ग शेर्पामा पनि एक हुन् पुगेका छन् ।
उनि बिश्व प्रख्यात पर्वतारोही हुन् र ७ वटा चर्चित हिमालय (हिम शिखर) सबै भन्दा छोटो समयमा (४२ दिनमा )आरोहण गरि बिश्व किर्तिमान गरेका छन् lहिमाल चढन उस्ताद तथा आत्मविश्वासी आङ्ग छिरिङ्ग शेर्पाले बिश्व किर्तिमानमा नाम लेखाउदै उनीले सगरमाथाको शिखरमा पुगी अमेरिकामा ३१ बर्ष पहिले नेपालीहरुद्वारा स्थापना भएको सबैको साझा संस्था ए एन ए को झन्डा सगरमाथाको चुचुरोमा फरफर्याई दिएका छन् ।

ए सी शेर्पाले ए एन ए का शुभ चिन्तक ,समर्थक ,सदश्य ,स्वयंसेवक तथा सम्पूर्ण पदाधिकारीलाई संस्थाको झन्डा फरफराई परिचय गराई सबैलाई उत्प्रेरित गर्न सफल भएका छन lशेर्पाले आफुलाई एक उत्प्रेरित उदाहरण प्रस्तुत गर्दै नेपाल प्रति श्रद्धा तथा प्रेम अर्पण गर्दै  युवा तथा बृद्ध नेपालीहरुको लागि एक साहसीक तथा उदेश्यमुलक कार्य हेतु उदाहरण बन्न पुगेका छन् । दि एसोसिएसन अफ नेपालीज इन अमेरिका (ए एन ए ) ए सी शेर्पा(आङ्ग छिरिङ्ग शेर्पा)ले यो संस्था प्रति गरेको ऐतिहासिक सेवा र बहादुरी कार्य प्रति खुला हृदयबाट प्रशंसा सहित कृतज्ञता ज्ञापन गर्न चाहन्छ ।

The primary objective of this tournament is to create a vibrant, productive and prosperous community while building bridges to foster interfaith understanding with our neighbors. This tournament will be a great way to bring the community together and to show support for our youth. Let’s join and make it a big success.

All Nepalese 3 on 3 basketball tournament rules:

1. A team will consist of 3 players on the court and 5 players max on the roster. A game may be started and continued with a minimum of three players.
2. NO food or drink in the Gym.
3. 3 All players of a team must have matching uniforms during the course of play. All participants must wear sneakers. No hard protective casts and/or jewelry (rings, watches, chain necklaces, etc.) shall be worn.
4. A coin flip prior to the game will determine first possession of the ball.
5. Game time is forfeit time. Teams must be present and signed in by their scheduled game time.
6. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit. The first team to score twenty-one (21) points will win the game. It is not necessary to win by two (2) points. Each basket scored in front of the 3-point line is worth one (1) point. Each basket scored behind the 3-point line is worth two (2) points.
7. On a change of possession, steal, rebound, etc., the defensive team must take the ball outside the 3-point arc to establish itself as the offense. Even on an air ball, the defense must take the ball outside the arc.
8. Each team is allowed three 45-second time-outs per game.
9. Substitutions may be made after a basket or any stoppage of play.
10. The offensive team must make one pass before a shot is taken.
11. Free throws count as one point. When fouled in the act of shooting, free throws are awarded to the fouled shooter. All free throws are dead balls. Regardless of whether the free throw(s) are made, the same team checks the ball from the check box.
12. The referee will record each personal foul. Each team member is allowed four personal fouls. Upon receiving the fourth personal foul, the player is disqualified.
13. Alternating possession on all jump ball situations will be in effect.
14. Referee may disqualify a player guilty of excessive, flagrant or intentional fouling.
15. The players listed on the roster at the time an entry form is submitted are the only players eligible without the consent of the event staff. The All Nepalese 3-on-3 basketball staff reserves the right to request identification from players at any time during the tournament. All participants are encouraged to bring picture identification to the tournament. Information provided to All Nepalese 3-on-3 basketball tournament on your entry form is the basis for division breakdowns. Any false information is grounds for disqualification.
16. Actions that are potentially dangerous to the participants of the game and/or conduct that is detrimental to the purpose of the Intramural Sports Program will not be tolerated. No players may physically intimidate or verbally abuse other players or any other members. Violations of this nature will be considered unsportsmanlike conduct and may result in removal from the tournament.

Fighting – any acts of aggression or physical violence will result in disqualification.

***We intend to strictly enforce the NBA rules (www.nba.com) and expects full co-operation from all of the teams involved. Rules related to ball movements, body movement such as traveling, screens, dribble techniques, jump and rebounds, tip offs, shooting, shooting fouls etc., which are related to the game shall be followed according to the NBA (www.nba.com) rules and regulations

A copy of captain’s driver’s license from each team is mandatory. ANA TEXAS will not responsible for any damages and injuries inherent during the game.

A music video shot aboard the International Space Station went viral on Monday, turning an astronaut into an overnight music sensation with his zero-gravity version of David Bowie’s hit “Space Oddity.”

As the first Canadian to command the space station, a $100 million project of 15 nations, Chris Hadfield had already earned himself a place in the history books.

But as he prepared to return home on Monday after more than five months in orbit, Hadfield released a poignant “cyberspace” rendition of Bowie’s song, which was first released in 1969 just ahead of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

The video, with its familiar refrain “Ground Control to Major Tom,” had more than 1.5 million hits on YouTube early Monday afternoon and was being touted as the first music video ever filmed in space.

Complete with re-worked lyrics and high quality footage that Hadfield and his crew mates shot aboard the orbital outpost, the video shows the astronaut singing about the impending end of his space mission while floating in mid-air above the blue Earth.

“Though I’ve flown 100,000 miles, I’m feeling very still and before too long I know it’s time to go,” the astronaut croons.

Hadfield, NASA astronaut Tom Marshburn and Russian cosmonaut Roman Romanenko, actually have racked up many millions of miles (kilometers) as they circled about 250 miles above the planet over the past 5-1/2 months.

Hadfield’s singing and acoustic guitar playing is accompanied by stunning video of the space station flying around the planet, a guitar free-floating and an eerie shot of a spacesuit at night.

The video, which was put together with the help of Hadfield’s son Evan and with the support of David Bowie, ends with a Soyuz capsule parachuting to Earth.

The music video caps a public outreach campaign Hadfield has conducted since before he blasted off for the station in December 2012, sharing comments and photographs on Twitter and other social media outlets.

The music video is not Hadfield’s first public performance. He is the lead vocalist and bass guitar player in the Houston-based all-astronaut rock band, Max Q.

18-year-old Kavita shared, “I was married at the age of 16 and I did not know about marriage registration till now.” Similarly, a resident at Lagankhel, Shobha KC said, “Although I have registered my marriage, I do not know the advantages of doing so.” “It is evitable for people of the country to be unknown about the importance of marriage registration since the awareness campaign organized in VDC level was not effective because the political and social leaders did not take it seriously”, says Dr. Khem Bahadur Karki, Executive Director SOLID Nepal, “Political leaders are the ones who are stationed at the higher level and have the power to make decisions and bring positive changes in the process. They should march forward to make this a national agenda.”

Pokhrel informed, “‘Vital Registration Act-2033’ was installed in 2034 and was successfully administered in 2047 B.S in all 75 districts of the country i.e. 3,915 VDCs and 58 Metropolitan cities. The marriages unrecorded after 2044 B.S. is not legally considered as marriage because a marriage is not considered unless it is recorded. But before this, it was the responsibility of the nation to inform the denizens about the importance of marriage registration in an effective manner.” Similarly, Sunil Lamsal, Kharidaar at Panjirakan Shakha, District Development committee, Lalitpur says, “Marriage is registered in VDC and district level but people register their marriage only when documents like the ones required for applying for abroad are made mandatory. On the other hand, people tend increase their age to meet the age bar and due to this, the country does not have the actual record of married couples under 20.”

According to the ‘Report of Vital Registration-2064-66’ published by Ministry of Local Development, the registration of vital events, 2066, has decreased in comparison to that of 2063. Only 60 out of 75 districts have reportedly submitted the records. The rest 9 districts that did not submit the report are Mahottari, Kavre, Manang, Lamjung, Myagdi, Parbat, Rukum, Salyan, Phythan, Dolpa, Mugu, Jumla, achham, Bajhang, Baitadi and Dadeldura. The report has defined the total of 1, 44, 992 as recorded under marriage registration. The record of vital events has been found to be minimum in ‘Far Western Region’ with 7.1 % whereas the record in Eastern development region is as high as 31.4 %. Similarly, according to the geographical division, Himalayan region has 3.5%, hilly region has 37.8 % and Terai region has 58.7 %. Among all the vital registrations, 74 % has the records of birth and death.

“Intimacy is what makes a marriage, not a ceremony, not a piece of paper from the state” – Novelist Katherine Norris. The difference between the marriage and love lies on two sides of a fulcrum. More the love between a couple, stronger the knot of their marriage is. These are two different aspects of life. The society has made marriage as a social institution and license to have sexual intercourse. Whether married or not, law has defined the right age at marriage so as to improve the sexual and reproductive health of people. Our society pressurizes a couple to bear a child as soon as they get married regardless of the development in their physical and mental state. The negative consequences like cervical cancer, STIs, are evitable among young married couples. Law is not composed in thin air but rather is imposed by the government for the betterment of the citizenry. Marriage Registration helps the country to make strategies for married couples. Marriage Registration, a component among five of the vital registrations is equally important as other four registration components (birth, divorce, migration and death). Marriage registration is important as it records the population of married couples through which a country plans for providing them with measures of family planning, medicines, vaccination and allocate number of health workers needed for mother and child. Migration registration helps in the management of human resources of the country. Death registration helps in finding out the cause of death and assists to search for the remedy. As a whole, marriage registration is the gateway to all the registrations and is connected with the planning of a family.

It is not only the common people’s fault but the marriage registration is also not implemented effectively by the concerned authority. The registration department at District Development Office had less documented field in the registration form. Answering to the reason, Sunil Lamsal replied, “There is a provision of submitting the record by VDC to DDC within 7 days of a month but we receive the record after the deadline and we are compelled to leave the space empty. As a result, the record is filled in the following month. Additionally, an individual registering their marriage should make further enquiry if such document has been recorded properly or not. Government officials are not solely responsible for its untimely dispatch. The country has now installed e-government but all of them are not well managed through networks. If such a network is managed properly, then this situation can be improved.”

In a nutshell, it is the responsibility of social leaders, political representatives, local community members, stakeholders and beneficiary and government officials to make this a national agenda in together and utilize the provision provided by the law to take utmost advantages from it.  Developed countries regularized such registrations three centuries ago. If such basic issues are not under smooth administration, then how can the nation walk towards ‘New Nepal’?

Thousands of people signed a petition at change.org (https://www.change.org/petitions/government-of-qatar-release-dorje-gurung), requesting the government of Qatar to release him. Facebook (Free Dorje Gurung) and Twitter (FreeDorjeGurung) pages had also been created demanding his release. A post on the change.org petition page has quoted a news article from Doha News as saying, “(T)he seventh graders poked fun at his appearance, calling him “Jackie Chan,” a famous Chinese actor…. (T)he mocking again began in earnest while Gurung was in line for lunch. At first, he said the teasing was light-hearted, but then one student put his hand on Gurung’s shoulder and a finger in the teacher’s nose. At this point, Gurung grew agitated and said remarks to the effect of, how would you like to be stereotyped i.e. called a terrorist?”

From what is understood so far, he was a victim of racism at the school and he was merely trying to defend himself and teaching his students not to judge a person based on stereotypes.Latest news reports have revealed that he was finally released from prison on Sunday afternoon.

Ramaucha Nepali Theme Events in association with Wake Up Nepal Events and Forcross Event Management is coming up with a blood donation drive pretty soon. They have organized theme parties in the past such as “Ocean of Lights”, ” Jingle Those Bells” and “Subhakamana Nakhipot Festival”. It’s the first time the group is coming up with this kind of social initiative and they plan to make it Nepals’ biggest blood donation drive till date.

The motto for their campaign is, “Be a hero for someone, somewhere” and they are urging as many people possible to be a part of this campaign to help those in need.

They plan to conduct this campaign in three different locations within the Kathmandu Valley, namely; Lalitpur, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, on three successive Saturdays spanning three weeks. Along with free health checkups, blood donors will also be treated to soothing music and refreshments.

A Pink Ribbon is the symbol of Breast cancer awareness and also expresses the solidarity with the women in their fight against Breast cancer.

I had a teacher at school who unlike most others simply detested me. I didn’t like her at all since she used to scold me for no apparent reasons, or maybe that’s what I had conjured up in my mind. Today, when I look back at that I think that it could be that scolding that gave me the impetus to do as good as I did in her subject. I could not thank her though because she left school that year and sometime later we heard the news that she succumbed to the fight against Breast Cancer. I remember that she had a small son and could not but think of him again and again back then. In no way did she look sick or diseased in any means but it all happened so fast leaving all of us shocked.

This is but a single example of a case of Breast Cancer and how it has touched my life. I am pretty sure that it has touched each and everyone’s life either directly or indirectly in some form. Each and every patient has their own story to tell about the fight that they had to put against this disease. Some won the fight while in other cases the disease prevailed.

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women in the world and the one that kills the most as well. In 2008, about 1.4 million new cases were detected and 458,000 women died due to breast cancer all around the world (Globocan 2008, IARC). Although previously believed to be a greater burden in the developed world, this has increased as a burden in the developing world as well owing to the urbanization, adoption of Western lifestyle and lack of proper education. More women have been killed in the developing countries than the developed world primarily because of detection in later stages when the prognosis is poor and survival rates are low.

RISK FACTORS – Familial history of breast cancer, mutation of some genes sometimes increases the risk. Increased exposure to the hormone Estrogen in case of late menopause or early menarche, child birth at older age, nulliparity, along with use of external source of these hormones like Oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy increases the risk of breast cancer. Lifestyle related factors such as overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, tobacco and alcohol use has also been included as a risk factor for breast cancer (IARC 2008, Lacey et al, 2009).

 EARLY DETECTION

If detected early or at an early stage, breast cancer, or any other forms of cancer can be treated appropriately and the outcome is better as well as survival is more. The worst case scenario in a country like Nepal is that a woman hides the ulcer, lump or swelling in her breast due to the fear of the society until it is so big that it cannot be hidden. In this case, the cancer would have spread not only to adjacent tissues but also metastasized or spread to far away organs and developed secondary cancers there. The consequence is that the cancer is too advanced and the prognosis or the outcome is very poor. This is the primary reason for the maximum number of deaths in the developing world due to breast cancer.

Another case scenario is of a patient of mine, who went to the doctor at an early stage. She detected a lump in her breast and went for a check-up right away. The diagnosis although taking some time came and she got the cancer surgically removed and went through radiotherapy.

Today, she works, looks after her family, talks about her story time and again and she visits me every 6 months for a regular dental check up with a very wide smile of her. The impact of EARLY DETECTION could be life saving for most in case of breast cancer. So, I urge every one of you to talk about breast cancer with your family, not make it a stigma in today’s society. Breast self examination is an easy method to regularly check oneself and increase one’s awareness of the disease. If any sign such as swelling, ulcer, discharge is seen, then please consult with your doctor or physician to rule out breast cancer.

In October 2010, she launched her business fmirror.com and became Nepal’s first online retailer. Not only she went to become Nepal’s first online retailer in the history but also became the first retailer to fetch prestigious brands such as H&M, Forever 21 and e.l.f Cosmetics. We can only imagine how difficult it must be for her to take a big step in online retail market where nobody had invested before and knew what the market opportunities and demands were. We must applaud her courage and confidence for taking that risky decision to kick start Nepali online market which has today inspired and given confidence to other retailers to pave and invest their career in online retail market. We decided to interview this soft spoken lady for this week’s fashion Friday as her CV speaks volume and inspires upcoming and future entrepreneurs.

1) What inspired you to become an online retailer?

It’s a global world we live in and a lot of that has to do with easy access to the internet. In Nepal, more people are using the internet to connect with each other. However, the economic prospects of this has not been utilised to it’s fullest. That is where fmirror.com comes in. I thought it was a great avenue to explore because no one had ever tried it and it was a very easy way to shop. I was inspired by the fact how successfully different brands marketed their products online for their consumers and I just could not help but try online retailing in my country as well.

2) Being the first online retailer of Nepal, what are the benefits and drawbacks?

Well, the commencement of a business is never easy when you are the pioneer. But it has it’s pros too. At first it was difficult to explain people as  how the entire mechanism worked and a lot of people were skeptic about the quality of the products. However, the customers who bought the products found our service satisfactory and then the marketing started from “Word of mouth” that is the customers talking bout our product and services with their peers, friends and family. Back then, since we were the only online retailer, we were the best place for online shopping since the market was monopoly and we were the only option for online shopping.

3) What types of challenges did you face when you first launched your business?

The biggest challenge was deciding whether or not to go ahead with turning the idea into the business. Once I mustered enough courage to actually go through it I launched my business. Making people understand the whole mechanism of online shopping was difficult like I explained before. There were two experiments I was undertaking while launching this business. One was to open online retail shop instead of the high street shop and the other, was selling only branded products.  In Nepal  people are more fond of “look-alikes” or what we could call the duplicates. Thus, it was a hard task penetrating the existing market and depicting the fact that the value of the brand goes way beyond just it’s name.

4) Can you briefly explain about your consumers and their age group?

My consumers are smart buyers. Not just because they use fmirror.com because they’re buying genuine products. They tally international market prices with what we are offering and are updated about the “do’s” and “do not’s” in fashion. As a retailer, I enjoy to knowing about my  coustomers are slowly understanding the essence of buying branded products and are slowly building a credible source as well. They range to all age-groups, but if I were to segregate them on the basis of a common factor, I would say especially the working class.

5) Competing with Nepali high street shops must be tough, how do you compete with them?

Well, I believe I compete with myself more than any other store. I challenge myself to be more innovative and customer friendly with the products I offer. But at times, you do get a little annoyed to still see people being more optimistic about shopping from stores and paying more money for products that otherwise are pretty cheap. The competition is not fair in Nepal. I have seen a lot of stores put up their price twice or even thrice, the price I put up for apparels.

6) Do you feel that the the online retail market is growing significantly in Nepal?

Yes, definitely. The market is growing  slowly. Some other online stores have joined the market as well and I’m happy that I created a way for people to follow. The idea still is not established because the medium however efficient it is I feel that it is still is not as satisfying as to when you are able to touch what you want to buy; but, free return-back policies have been deployed to make it more satisfying for the customers. Online still isn’t the most credible of sources, but what I can say with full assurance is that someday it will be!
In the current context, some retailers are expanding and growing. However, some have failed to expand and the reason for that obviously is down to the availability of copied products. Also, the price is a major factor. But I would like to believe that it is changing as well. People are starting to realize that the extra pennies they pay are working on their favor when you calculate the durability and the grace that the product emits.

संचार कर्मिको तर्फबाट यथा स्थानबाटै डिसी नेपालका रामहरी सुबेदी तथा ईनेपालिज़ डटकमका संचालक बिश्व राज थापाले शुभकामना दिएका थिए lकार्यक्रममा शुभकामना ,मन्तब्य र प्रश्न उत्तर राखिएको थियो भने कामको दिन र समय अभावको कारण कार्यक्रमलाई संक्षेपमा गरिने प्रयास स्वरुप छोटो तथा मिठो गरिनुको साथै सहभागिता बाक्लो रहेको थियो l केहि  जिज्ञासा र प्रश्न प्राख्नेहरुमा भर्खर अमेरिका छिरेका दोलखा महा समिति सदश्य किरण लामा ,सिता  पाण्डे तथा विजय थापा थिए l

नेपाली कांग्रेसका केन्द्रिय सदस्य अर्जुन नरसिंह केसीले मन्तब्य व्यक्त गर्दै नेपालको वर्तमान् राजनैतिक अवस्था र यहि सेरोफेरोमा रही धेरै कुराहरु राख्नु भएको कारण जिज्ञाशा र केहि खुल्दुली रहेका प्रश्नको उत्तर मन्तब्यले समाधान गरेको थियो lवहाले मन्तब्य व्यक्त गर्दै नव बर्ष २०७० को शुभकामना दिदै भर्जिनिया जनसम्पर्क समितिले अवसर प्रदान गर्न दिएकोमा धन्यबाद दिनु हुदै अब कमि कमजोरी नदोहोर्याउने जनाउदै र त्यो कुरा बिर्सेर अब नया यात्राको तय गर्नु पर्ने कुरा राख्नु भएको थियो l मन्तब्य कै क्रममा नेपालको राजनीतिमा नेपाली कांग्रेसले बिश्व कै ईतिहासमा यति लामो समय सम्म एउटा दलले मात्र ३ पटक क्रान्ति गरेको बिश्व मै कहिँ न भएको जानकारी गराएका थिए l

अब बिगतबाट पाठ सिकी आत्मा आलोचना गर्नुको कुनै बिकल्प नरहेको  र नेपाली कांग्रेसले अब  बिचारको पुनर्जागरण आवस्यकता भएको र दल भित्र सुधार गर्नु पर्ने, शक्ति र सत्ताको पछाडी भन्दा सत्यको पछाडी हुनु पर्ने मन्तब्य दिएका छन्  l पद्दतिलाई ब्यबहारिक रुपमा परिवर्तन गर्न सक्नु पर्छ भन्दै नेपाली कांग्रेस सबै भन्दा बढ्ता समाबेसी भएको जानकारी दिदै नेतृत्व तहमा ठुलो हु भन्ने भावाना रहेको छ र यस्तो भावानाबाट ग्रसित हुनु हुदैन भन्दै आफु दल भित्र एकता हुनु पर्छ भन्ने मान्यता रहेको मन्तब्य दिएका छन l

कार्यक्रममा बिभिन्न संघ तथा संस्थासंग आबद्द बुद्धिजीवि ,संचारकर्मी तथा लब्ध प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्तित्वहरुको उपस्थिति रहेको थियो lकार्यक्रमको सभापत्तित्व जनसम्पर्क समिति भर्जिनियाका केसब बरालले गरेका थिए भने उनले सबैलाई छिटो समयको निमन्त्रणालाई स्वीकार गरि पाल्नु भै कार्यक्रमको हौसला वृद्धि गरि दिनु भएकोमा अतिथि केसी तथा सबैलाई धन्यबाद दिदै कार्यक्रमको बिसर्जन गरेका थिए भने कार्यक्रम संचालन समितिका उपाधक्ष्य राम शरण हुमागाईले गरेका थिए l

अमेरिका ,म्यारिल्याण्ड ,अप्रिल ३० ,बाना(बाल्टिमोर एसोसिएसन अफ नेपलिज इन अमेरिका )ले नया बर्ष २०७० को अवसरमा म्यारिल्याण्ड राज्यको बाल्टिमोरमा सांस्कृतिक साँझ तथा शुभकामना आदान प्रदान कार्यक्रम भब्यताको साथ सम्पन्न गरेको छ lबानाले हरेक बर्ष नया बर्षमा कार्यक्रम गर्दै आई रहेको छ भने यस लाई निरन्तरता दिदै यहि अवसरमा भर्खरै  नेपाल र नेपालीको शिर उच्च पारी गिनिज पुस्तकमा सबै भन्दा लामो टेली भिजन अन्तरवार्ता दिई नाम दर्ता गराउनु हुने संचारकर्मी रवि लामिछानेलाई भब्यताको साथ अमेरिकामा पहिलो पटक स्वागत गर्दै सम्मान गरेको छ l

अरु समयको भन्दा फरक शैलीमा गरिएको कार्यक्रम रहेको थियो भने गिनिज पुस्तक ईतिहास रच्ने संचार कर्मी रवि लामिछानेले सम्मान पाएकोमा कृतज्ञता ज्ञापन गर्दै र खुशी व्यक्त गरेका छन l सबैको सहयोग र सद्भाव रहेकोमा आफुले यो लक्ष्य प्राप्त गरेको जनाएका छन् lनेपाल दूतावासका उप नियोग प्रमुख अर्जुन कान्त मैनालीले लामिछानेलाई सम्मान गर्नु भएको थियो भने प्रमुख अतिथिले रवि लामिछानेलिई बधाई दिदै र बाना परिवारलाई धन्यबाद दिनु भएको थियो lमन्तब्यलाई छाटकाट गरि वक्ताहरु कम राखिएको सो कार्यक्रममा पुन बानामा अधक्ष्य पदमा निर्वाचित हुनु भएका समाजसेवी तथा ब्यबसायी विजय श्रेष्ठले शुभकामना मन्तब्य गर्नुको साथै अब नया काममा लाग्नु पर्ने हुदा बिगतका कुराहरुलाई बिर्सेर सबै लाई समाज निर्माणमा र सेवामा समर्पित हुन् आग्रह गर्दै एक ढिक्का हुन् आब्हान गर्नु भएको छ l

कार्यक्रममा भब्य सांस्कृतिक साँझ राखिएको थियो भने कार्यक्रममा समुदायक सबै वर्गका समुदाय सदस्यहरुको उल्लेखनीय उपस्थिति रहेको थियो l गीत ,नृत्य तथा बिभिन्न कार्यक्रम साँझ देशी मध्ये रात सम्म भब्यताको साथ मनाईएको थियो भने सांस्कृतिक साँझमा सहभागी हुने नया कलाकार तथा नेपालका ख्याती प्राप्त कलाकारहरुले वातावरण तताएका थिए ,lकलाकारहरु युरिका सिग्देल ,श्याम गुरुङ , दीपा गुरुङ ,पुजा जोशी ,सुर्य राजभण्डारी ,रमण श्रेष्ठ ,नेपालका प्रसिद्ध गायक संजीव प्रधान ,गरिमा केसी ,पविता प्रधान ,प्रतिभा गुरुङ ,दिनेश भण्डारी ,ख्याती प्राप्त गायिका सरिश्मा अमात्य ,रियाँ अमात्य ,नेपालकी सु-प्रख्यात वरिस्ठ गायिका मीरा राना  तथा भगवान भण्डारीले भरपुर मनोरंजन प्रदान गराएका थिए l

कार्यक्रमको संचालनलाई नया प्रतिभाहरुलाई  उच्च प्राथमिकता दिने र हौसला प्रदान गर्ने हेतुले बाना ले कार्यक्रम संचालनको जिम्मा  अर्जुन सुबेदी ,दीपा पौडेल तथा संदेश खडका दिएको थियो र कार्यक्रम संचालकहरुले पालै पालो कार्यक्रम गरेका थिए l

न्युयोर्क, यहि आउदो जुलाई ४, ५ र ६ मा न्युयोर्कमा हुन लागेको ३१ औं एएनए सम्मेलन आयोजक समितीले सम्मेलनलाई अझ प्रभावकारी र उदेश्य मुलुक बनाउने हेतुले ७ सदस्यीय सल्लाहकार समिती गठन गरेको छ । अमेरिकामा लामो समय देखि बसोबास गर्नु हुने तथा समाजमा उल्लेखनीय भूमिका निर्वाह गर्दै आईरहनु भएका समाजका लब्ध प्रतिष्ठित व्यक्तित्वहरुलाई समितीमा चयन गरिएको छ l

सल्लाहकार समितिमा डा तारा निरौला, बरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता खग्रेन्द्र क्षेत्री, डा तुलसी महर्जन, श्री पराजुली, बंशलाल तामाङ, बिनोद पोमो र सिता खरेल रहनुभएको छ । ३१ औ ए एन ए न्यु योर्क सम्मेलनका प्रमुख संयोजक समिर महर्जनका अनुसार सम्मेलनलाई भब्यताका साथ सफल पार्नको लागि सल्लाहकार समितीका सदस्यहरुले आआफ्नो तर्फबाट राय ,सल्लाह तथा सुझाव दिनु हुने छ ।

संयोजक महर्जनका अनुसार यस पटकको सम्मेलन बिगतका भन्दा फरक र ऐतिहासीक बनाउनको लागी आयोजक समितीले कुनै कसर नछोड्ने प्रतिबद्दता जाहेर गरेका छन् । साथै एनए सम्मेलनलाई थप उपलब्धीमुलक बनाउन न्युयोर्क शहरको भ्रमण तथा सम्मेलनलाई थप सहयोग गर्ने उद्धेश्यका साथ आयोजक समितीमा बिजय सिंह र दिपेन्द्र केसीलाई थप गरिएको बिज्ञप्तीमा जनाइएको छ। बिज्ञप्तीका अनुसार एएनए सम्मेलनको आधिकारिक (संजाल )वेभसाईट anany2013.org मा सम्मेलन सम्बन्धी सम्पुर्ण जानकारी सहित दर्ता (रजिष्ट्रेशन )खुल्ला भएको जनाइएको छ ।

According to the factsheet of the World Health Organization (WHO) cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide with around 7.6 million deaths around the world in 2008. And the number of deaths is predicted to increase to 13.2 million by the year 2030 according to the same source. The numbers almost doubling in a matter of 22 years is an alarming figure.

So, what actually is cancer? Simply put, the cells in our body grow uncontrollably without stopping, thus forming masses or tumors which may invade the adjacent tissues. The uncontrollable cell growth occurs when there is mutation and damage of the DNA resulting in damage to the gene controlling cell division. Normally, the cells in our body are programmed to grow, divide and die in a normal way but in case of cancer cells this programmed cell death is lost and thus these abnormal cells grow and cause the various problems by invading adjacent organs and causing damage. If these cells access the blood stream or lymph vessels and transport to other organs and start growing there it is called metastasis. This is a serious concern as the cancer will be difficult to treat now and the outcome even after treatment becomes poor.

Cancer is not communicable; i.e can’t transmit from one person to the other. Almost all the cancers are genetic; some are even inherited in the family genes. The agents that play a role in developing cancer are called carcinogens. Tobacco, asbestos, arsenic, various forms of radiation, etc are carcinogens. They play a role in mutations of the genes and thus in causing cancer. There are also microorganisms like Human Papilloma Virus (cervical and oral cancer), Hepatitis B virus (Liver cancer), Helicobacter pylori (gastric carcinoma), etc that have been known as a risk factor for these cancers.

There are more than 100 forms of cancers and t
he signs/symptoms vary for each type. We will deal with that in the posts on specific forms of cancer. In the developing world, the majority of cancer cases are detected in the late stage. Late stage detection forecasts a bad outcome for the patient even after treatment. Therefore, Early detection of the case forms a major factor for the good outcome of treatment for any patient. So, if you see any signs/symptoms such as unusual mass, sore that does not heal, unusual discharge or bleeding, thickness/ lumps on the breast, obvious changes in moles and etc then going to a medical practitioner for evaluation would be a good idea.

There are various modalities of treatments of cancer like surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy and etc which have proven effective against many forms of cancers. These are used either singly or combined to treat as indicated for the specific case. Also, huge amount of research is being carried out to bring forth new modalities of treatment and more effective medicines for the disease.

So, it’s clear that we or even someone close to us are prone to cancer. Does it mean that we wait for it to happen of do something about it? Many people especially in the developing world think that cancer has no answer. But, the truth is that it can be prevented by adopting certain basic measures.

In today’s fast growing world, a major factor in determining the unfortunate is neglecting the simple laws of nature and also taunting them by indulging in adverse activities like using tobacco products, alcohol abuse, consuming unhealthy diet and a sedentary lifestyle lacking physical activities. If the aforementioned factors can be controlled, i.e. by refraining from tobacco and alcohol, consuming healthy diet and doing regular exercises, almost 1/3^rd of all cancer cases can be prevented. Therefore, Prevention is the key to reduce the risk of this disease for oneself and our family.
