Nepal’s No.1 golfer, Shiva Ram Shrestha registered a card of one-under 71 after the first round of the CMS Open Golf Championship on Wednesday to remain on top of the leader board. The championship is being held at the Gokarna Golf Club and is the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2011-12.
Shrestha has a one-stroke lead over Rabi Khadka while Ramesh Nagarkoti, Sabin Sapkota and amateur Tash Tshering are tied for third place with score of one-over 73.
28 professionals are taking part in the main event along with 21 amateurs. The event is organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association (Nepal PGA) and sponsored by ISME P. Ltd. After the second round, only top 20 professionals and 4 amateurs will qualify for the final round.
CMS Open Golf Championship is also the largest local professional event of the Nepal PGA and carries a total cash prize of Rs 500,000. The winner will receive Rs 110,000 while the runner up will be awarded Rs 72,000. Third place finisher will receive Rs 54,000. Top 20 professionals will earn prize money in the championship.
