U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced that Nepal has been designated temporary protected status (TPS) for 18 months based on the conditions resulting from the devastating earthquake of April 25th, 2015 and the several aftershocks that followed. This allows eligible Nepalis currently living in the United States to appky for TPS with USCIS starting on June 24, 2015.

The TPS designation for Nepal will remain effective from June 24, 2015 through December 24, 2016. During this period eligible Nepali nationals residing in the United States will not be removed from the country and may also be eligible to receive work authorization after approval of TPS application.

TPS application period begins on June 24 and will end on December 21, 2015. To be eligible for the TPS, applicants must meet all eligibility criteria listed on the TPS info page on USCIS website (uscis.gov/tps). All Nepali nationals who have entered the United States on or before June 24, 2015 who are here on non-immigrant status or without any legal status can apply for TPS as long as they meet the criteria listed under TPS eligibility for Nepal by USCIS.
