Festival of Western Nepal: Celebration of Gaura Parva

Gaura Parva, a festival celebrating the wedding between Goddess Gauri and Lord Maheshwar, is observed across various regions of the country on Tuesday (September 2, 2014) .

The Gaura festival, also known as Durbashtami observed on Bhadra Shukla Ashtami, is particularly celebrated by the people of the mid-western and the far-western regions of Nepal.

On this day, Goddess Gauri is worshipped and people perform ‘deuda’ — a traditional song and dance routine peculiar to the far-west.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala extended greetings on the occasion of Gaura Parva.

In his greetings message, Koirala said that this festival helps to inspire all divergent religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic people to enhance social cohesion, mutual harmony and fraternity in Nepali society.

Simialrly, Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel also extended greetings to all Nepali people on the occasion.
