Pratik Pant, who after undergoing hormone replacement treatment was waiting for his sex reassignment surgery (SRS), has finally had a successful operation. Pant, who had left for Thailand 22 days ago, has now returned home following an eight hour long surgery. The son of famous comedian Santosh Pant is now officially a “she” and prefers to be called “Caitlin Pant”.

Sources say although it is a very rare case in Nepal, Pant family have taken it casually. Friends and relatives are actually celebrating it like an auspicious occasion. “Since losing our eldest daughter to an accident, we had always wished for a daughter,” expressed Caitlin’s mum Pratibha, speaking to ekantipur.com, “Even when I was pregnant with Pratik, I’d wished for a girl and 18 years later, I’m extremely happy to finally have a daughter.”
According to elder brother Sakar, since Caitlin was interested in dolls and behaved like a girl as a child, she was always treated like a daughter. He used to go out to play cricket whereas she used to go out with their mom for shopping. He believes that when someone is a woman mentally/psychologically, it is that person’s right to have the respective physicality. Hence, the family decided to take this move.
