While many families, whose members have passed the SLC (School Leaving Certificate) examination with flying colours, are celebrating with sheer joy, it has, however, not been the case for a family in Nepalgunj. The pain and grief for the Adhikari family of Bhrikutinagar has been even more excruciating since the SLC results were announced on Friday (June 19, 2015).

Instead of being overjoyed for their child’s outstanding performance, Dhruva Adhikari and Ranju Sharma have been saddened even more. Their 15-year-old daughter Anuradha Adhikari, who they lost in the April 25 earthquake, topped her school attaining distinction with a remarkable 88.75 percentage. They had slowly been overcoming their loss when they received the otherwise happy news which they felt was rubbing salt into their wounds. She had come to Kathmandu to spend her vacation following her SLC exams. It was during her stay in the capital that she had visited the Dharahara which, unfortunately, was crumbled down by the massive earthquake, consequently taking many innocent lives, including Anuradha’s.

As revealed by her school Adarsh Boarding School in Nepalgunj, Anuradha was a good and hardworking student and wanted to take up science as her subject for plus 2 education to become either a doctor or an engineer.
