ANA Team Pay Visit to the US Senate

Team of the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) led by its founder member and Past President Dr. Shyam Karki and current General Secretary Bijay Thapa met the legislative staff of Senator Benjamin L Cardin who is also a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Dr. Karki and Mr. Thapa informed them about the history of the ANA and its traditional annual convention of the ANA in July 4 weekend which is being held this year in Dallas. They discussed many topics of interest to the Nepali American Community and have been assured of help in the following areas:

  1. Have President Obama send greetings at the ANA Convention
  2. Invite ANA to attend the hearings on confirmation of US ambassador to Nepal and discussion of issues on Nepal
  3. Encourage and support the Peace process and promotion of Democracy and Human Rights in Nepal
  4. Investigate the denial of visa to Chintamani Yogi ji and facilitate his travel to the US to participate at the ANA Convention.

We also agreed to follow up on the above issues in a timely manner. We will be following this with visits to other senator and congressmen also. It is to be noted that Dr. Karki, as President of the Nepali American Public Affairs Council (NAPAC) had been very active in obtaining the support of the US congress and getting many resolutions passed in the House and the Senate during the Democracy struggle. He has an extensive support network in the US Congress.

Thank you,

Tsewang Sherpalama

Interim President,

The Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA)
