Cold wave hits normal life in Terai

Normal life in different districts of Terai has been affected due to increasing cold as a result of the cold wave that is sweeping across the region for the past few days.

With the dip in mercury, the number of people coming outside the houses have gone down, so, trade activities in Siraha district headquarters Lahan, Dhangadhi, Chauharba, Mirchaya and other places have deceased, said Ashok Agrawal, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lahan.

The number of patients suffering from the cold-related diseases such as pneumonia, respiratory problems and common cold has also gone up in the district. School children, workers and the aged-people are badly affected by the cold, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, life in Mahottari district was also affected due to down in the mercury.

Most of the areas in the district have been covered with thick fog ultimately affecting the outdoor activities due to the cold wave. The cold also affected the winter crops, farmers said.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has occurred in the mountain region of Taplejung district from last evening. The people of upper belt of the district have temporarily migrated to the lower parts following the chilling cold coupled with snowfall.

Heavy snowfall has occurred in Ghunsa, Khambachhen, Lonark, Amjilesa and other VDCs in the district.

The locals of Ghunsa have moved to Phale while Ghunsa Lower Secondary School has been closed for three months, teacher Khem Niraula said.
