Democratic Leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Kathmandu

Democratic icon and leader of Myanmar’s opposition party Aung San Suu Kyi  has arrived Kathmandu on a four-day official visit to Nepal this afternoon.

 Su Kyi is scheduled to participate in a function being organized jointly by B P Memorial Trust and BP Thought Academy to mark the birth centenary of BP Koirala.

Security was tightened and the droves of Nepali people including rights activists and political party leaders were gathered at TIA to receive Su Kyi.

Nobel Peace laureate Su Kyi will deliver keynote speech on the theme — Relevance of Social Democracy as a chief guest of the function scheduled for Saturday. According to the prime minister´s foreign relations adviser Dr Dinesh Bhattarai, she will also address lawmakers in parliament at 4 pm on Saturday. 

Suu Kyi is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Koirala today itself. 

According to the organizers, Su Kyi will fly to Lumbini to visit Mayadevi Temple and other holy sites in the birthplace of Lord Buddha on Sunday. B P Memorial Trust and BP Thought Academy are jointly organizing a special civic felicitation function to honor Suu Kyi after she returns to Kathmandu from Lumbini on the same day.
