Dozens missing after a boat capsizes in southern Nepal

August 17, 2011 – At least 38 people went missing after a overcrowded boat capsized in the Kamala River in southern Nepal.

The incident took place Tuesday evening near Tedhiyomod of Lakkar VDC in Dhanusha. The boat was carrying more people than its capacity and all on-board were farmers returning to Siraha from Dhanusha. The Himalayan Times reported the boat was carrying at least 41 people. According to police official Hari Bahadur Pal the boat was very old, overcrowded and the river was flooded by the monsoon rain which could have caused it to capsize.
