Today, the fourth day of Tihar, saw some of the events that are looked forward to during the festival. Along with Gobardhan Puja, Mha Puja and the arrival of the new year Nepal Sambat 1134 were also observed throughout the country.

Celebrated by the Newars, Mha Puja is about worshiping oneself for well being and long life whereas the Newari New Year Nepal Sambat 1134 (Nhu Daya Bhintuna) was welcomed by many Bhintuna rallies taking place in different cities. It is believed that on this day, a newar Businessman Shanka Dhar Sakhwa paid all the debt on behalf of the people of Kathmandu Valley, so the newar started celebrating it as a new life for them. Hence, every year they started celebrating it as a new year.
