FIFA World Cup Trophy Unveiled in Nepal!

For years, football enthusiasts in Nepal have been supporting various teams and watching them play to win the FIFA World Cup trophy. And Nepal finally got to see the sports world’s most coveted trophy on December 21, 2013, Saturday!

The FIFA World Cup Trophy arrived in the Capital on the very day. It was flown to Nepal in the morning from Bhutan by a special jet. The FIFA aircraft landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport at 11:50 am, with a two-hour delay due to poor weather conditions.

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav unveiled the World Cup trophy, made up of 6.175 kg 18 carat gold, at the Dasharath Stadium, amid high security arrangements. Chiefs of the security bodies, Sports Minister Ram Kumar Shrestha, Chief Secretary Lilamani Paudel, ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama and other officials were present at the event.

The members of men’s and women national teams, and invitees graced the trophy at the stadium.

FIFA plans to take the iconic trophy to 90 countries before reaching Brazil for the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil in 2014. Nepal is the 51st countries included in the tour.

This is the first time that the original FIFA World Cup Trophy has been brought to Nepal.
