Gurkha soldier killed in Afghanistan named by MoD

British Ministry of Defence has released name of the British Gurkha soldier shot dead in Afghanistan on Friday, January 27, 2012 as Lance Corporal Gaj Bahadur Gurung.

L/Cpl Gurung, 26, joined the Brigade of Gurkhas on Dec 18, 2004 and served three times in Afghanistan. He was born in Majthana, Nepal.

His company was responsible for holding the contested area north east of Gereshk, second city in Halmand province.

His patrol came under small arms fire on Friday afternoon and he was fatally wounded.

He is survived by his wife Manisha, father Gum Bahadur, mother Lekh Maya, his brother Buddha and sister Junu.

British military deaths in Afghanistan now stands at 397 since 2001, the BBC reported.
