Indreni Cultural Association LogoIndreni Cultural Association is organizing an event to celebrate Janai Purnimaa, Kwati Purnima and Gaijatra with poetry festival, food and cultural performances at their office hall in Irving on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Indreni Cultural Association invites everyone to attend the event and be part of their effort to preserve and promote Nepalese culture and tradition on foreign land.

Janai Purnima is a sacred Hindu festival when people who have undergone the sacred thread ritual Bratabandha, change their sacred thread known as Janai in Nepali. Kwati Purnima is observed mainly among Newari community of Nepal in which they prepare a special soup made out of nine different varieties of beans mixed together which is known as Kwati. Gaijatra means festival of cows (gai means cow and jatra means festival in Nepali). Gaijatra is another Newari festival which commemorates the death of people in the family during the year. It has also evolved as a festival of comedy and satire.
