Jure Landslide Update: Rescue Continues, One More Body Found

Search and rescue operations resumed Tuesday morning (August 5, 2014) at Jure in Sindhupalchowk, where a landslide swept away about 77 households on Saturday morning (August 2, 2014).

As reported by NepalNews.com, according to Sindhupalchowk Chief District Officer Gopal Prasad Parajuli, work on releasing more water from the dammed lake formed at Sunkoshi River by debris from the landslide also resumed.

As of 11 am on Tuesday, no additional bodies had been recovered.

The inflow into the dammed area is pegged at 180 Cusecs and outflow at 205 Cusecs, according to Parajuli.

Officials present at the site say that a three-member expert team has reached the site.

Security forces and related experts on Tuesday set a target of letting out at least 250 Cusecs of water from dam.

After the search and rescue teams found 23 more bodies on Monday, the death toll from the landslide stands at 33 while more than 150 are still missing.

As updated by the news site, rescuers found one more body in Sankhuwasabha on Tuesday. The death toll from a landslide on Monday at Syabun VDC-3 in Fachyang reached six, while four people are still missing.

Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and local residents continued rescue efforts Tuesday morning.
