Lord Krishna, worshipped as the eighth incarnation of Vishnu, was born on the eighth day (ashtami) of dark fortnight (krishna paksha) in Shrawan month of Hindu calendar.

Celebrated to commemorate birth of Lord Krishna, the day witnessed devotees visit Krishna temples across the country, especially the Krishna mandir at Patan Durbar Square on Janmashtami.

On this occasion, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav offered a special pooja at Patan Krishna Mandir on Sunday morning. He received prasad and tika from the temple’s chief-priest Rabindra Sharma.

Yadav, in his greeting-message to the nation, stated that Janmashtami plays an important role to unify a nation as culturally diverse as Nepal.

Language, culture, art, traditions and customs are the indicators of every nation’s civilisation. Therefore, all Nepali’s should be dedicated to preserve the unique essences of our civilisation, President Yadav said in the message Krishna Janmashtami is also celebrated as the day of love owing to Lord Krishna’s love for the Radha and the Gopinis.
