On December 7, 2012 Palyul Changchub Dhargyayling Dallas (PCD Dallas) hosted “Maitreya Heart Shrine Relic Tour” for the first time since its inception. It is a Meditation and Study Center for Nyingma tradition of Tibetian Buddhism. The relic expo was opened for public and remained open for three consecutive days. Inside the PCD temple, the big statue of Maitreya Buddha, little Buddha statue, and 43 different Buddha’s relics were exhibited. It is estimated that 2500 Buddhist follower visited the relics. Getting to visit the relic is once in a lifetime opportunity. Having seen and blessed with relic, I really feel directly energized” one of the visitor professed. “I have been looking to get a glimpse of the divine for a long time.”
As it turned out, it is very scarce to get to visit relic in America because it is usually kept as treasure and protected from getting lost. Even in Nepal, Swayambhunath temple opens the public for relic blessings only once a year, which is on the day of Buddha Jayanti.
However, under the leadership of highest lamas, a “Maitreya Relic Tour” has organized this year. The tour is one yearlong excursion through out the world accompanied by Buddhas’ relics and Maitreya Buddha, Buddha of next eon. When is next eon? No one knows! Generally, it is believed that Maitreya Buddha will come to exist when life gets harder on earth. The harder times are when there will exist 2 suns in the universe and the life expectancy of people are only ten years. When intolerable sufferings hit on earth, Maitreya Buddha can liberate souls.
If you are familiar with Buddhist philosophy/religion, you probably know what Relic is. The literal meaning of relic is the “remains “of the spiritual master. In Buddhist faith, relic is the remains of spiritual master. Literally, Maitreya Heart Shrine Relic Tour” brought the relic of Shakyamuni Buddha (Gautam Buddha) along with 43 great enlightened spiritual masters.
In describing the relic, lots of them look so much like crystal stones, even though it varies with individual “Buddha,” Person who is liberated from worldly sufferings. They are in the purest form of life. Thus, when they are dead and burned in the pyre, they leave out crystals like relics behind them along with ashes. Gautam Buddha left billions of crystals when he was cremated.
Relics have significant place in Buddhist religion. It is believed to directly empower and heal sentient beings.
Little Gautam Buddha, When Gautam Buddha was born, he was born in standing position with upraised right hand and a finger. As soon as he was born, he walked seven steps. It has been known that Mayadevi gave birth to Buddha from her right side of the belly, instead of the conventional ways.
Devotees are to bathe little Buddha with Saffron water to detoxify own’s negative thoughts and karma and to benefit entire living beings on earth.
