Upcoming Nepali jewelry designer Arpana Rayamajhi was recently featured in The New York Times 30 Under 30- a series of profiles of young people who are experimenting in new forms of work, play, community and creation. In the latest episode of the publishing giant’s presentation, the 29 year-old artist shared her thoughts on cultural appropriation in fashion and whether it is a bad thing apart from her work.

Rayamajhi gained more attention after her creations were recently worn by Kendall Jenner and Adriana Lima in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, which also gave way to outrage from many for cultural appropriation.  She has tried to dispel the notion in the interview. The vibrant colors and cultural inspiration are what make her jewelries stand out.

She graduated from The Cooper Union School of Art with a BFA degree focusing primarily on Painting and Sculpture. She founded her jewelry brand formerly known as ArpanaJewels in the summer of 2014.
