A Nepali student pursuing graduation in Computer Science at Maryland University in Baltimore, United States, was found dead near his apartment on November 18.

Narayan Bhandari, who flew to the United States on a student visa in 2003, had been missing since the night of November 10.

He left the apartment at 8:30 pm that night to throw away garbage and did not return, according to Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America (BANA). Baltimore police found his dead body near a park close to the apartment eight days later.

Until Friday, the Office of Baltimore Medical Examiner was unsure about the cause of the death.

“The cause of the death remains unclear. He could have been murdered,” said Bijay Shrestha, president of BANA. “We are expecting official information about the death from the medical examiner´s office in the next few days,” he added.

Son of Komal Bahadur Bhandari and Huma Bhandari of Khudi-1, Lamjung, Narayan completed SLC from Ex-Army Boarding School at Besisahar, Lamjung, and Intermediate in Science from Amrit Science College.

A good student in school as well as in college, he earned undergraduate degree in Computer Science from University of Maryland and was eyeing a graduate degree.

Narayan got married to Shretini Harris, an American woman, in 2006. After Narayan´s disappearance, Harris had informed the local police, Nepali Embassy in the United States and Nepali nationals residing in the United States about the disappearance.

BANA has sent documents related to the death to Narayan´s family members in Nepal through the Nepali Embassy in the United States so that they can travel to Baltimore.

“His parents are yet to get visa in Nepal for traveling to Baltimore,” Shrestha said.
