Nepali mountaineer Chhurim entered the Guinness Book of  World Records by scaling Mount Everest twice in the same climbing season with only a difference of week.

Nepal’s Tourism Minister Posta Bahadur Bogati handed over the Guinness World Records certificate issued to Chhurim on Monday, 25th February. Guinness World Records said she is the first woman to climb the world’s highest mountain twice in the same season.

According to the AP, Chhurim, a 29-year-old Nepalese Sherpa, scaled Mount Everest not once, but twice inside of a week, reaching the 29,035-ft. summit of the tallest mountain in the world first on May 12, 2012, then again seven days later on May 19.

“I am very happy for this recognition, I was determined that the record should be held by a Nepalese woman and I’m proud to be one.” said Chhurim, as reported by AFP.

She shares that Everest is the first of the highest mountains she has climbed but she will continue mountaineering and hope to scale more peaks in the future. She also said very less women have been able to set record comparing to male mountaineers and it can be difficult for women as they are not considered as strong as men and face many problems like finding toilets.

The Nepal Mountaineering Association said nearly 4,000 people have scaled Everest since  Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay did so in 1953 and women are a small number of them.

Spring is the most popular season on Everest when hundreds of mountaineers attempt every year since climbing season is limited  just to a few weeks due to extremely harsh weather conditions .
