Visitor arrivals post record high

The monthly tourist arrivals by air posted a record in October. According to Immigration Office, Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), visitor arrivals in October touched a record 73,264 — an increment by 16.8 per cent compared to the same month last year — for the first time in the tourism history of Nepal. A total of 69,115 foreign tourists departed whereas 52,952 Nepalese departed from TIA in October but TIA recorded some 70,531 Nepalese arrivals.

US lawmaker warns to stop millions of dollars in US AID if crack down on Tibetans’ movement continues in Nepal

A US lawmaker threatened to strip Nepal of its millions of dollars in US aid unless it permits refugees fleeing Chinese rule in Tibet to transit through the country, according to an AFP report. The warning comes few days after Nepal’s riot police arrested at least 35 Tibetan refugees from pro-Tibet demonstration in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur on Tuesday.

Hello Sarkar restores Rs 6,150 to fleeced bus passengers

The impact of the much-talked-about Hello Sarkar public complaints hotline is being seen in one instance after another. Some 41 bus passengers in Itahari were able to recover Rs 6,150 fleeced from them by the bus owners on Saturday thanks to timely intervention by the Hello Sarkar team. The Hello Sarkar control room has been in operation following its inauguration by the prime minister on Thursday. The control room has been taking non-stop phone calls and there is a flood of complaints by email, fax and SMS also.
