PM celebrates Dashain at old age home, Maiti Nepal

While most of us Nepali Hindus were preparing to receive tika and jamara on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was talking to elderly people at Pashupati Briddashram (old age home), along with his wife Thursday morning.

The old people at the old age home in Pashupati were all overjoyed as they found themselves with the prime minister of the country on the Tika day.

Dr. Bhattarai and his wife Hisila Yami reached there in the morning and distributed sweaters and horlicks to 229 old people living there.

The PM inquired about the condition of the old age home which is refuge to most of the old people, and directed to improve the current state of the Ashram.

Office Chief Ram Sharan Thapa said the prime minister expressed worries over the environment of the rooms for the senior citizens, and directed to present an action plan for improvement of the Ashram.

Likewise, the PM and wife also visited the Maiti Nepal sharing the sufferings of the women living there, besides having a joyous moment. The couple also had their share of fun on the swing erected by the women sheltered there.

Bhattarai distributed fruits to the victimised women taking shelter at Maiti Nepal as well.

Maiti Nepal founding chairperson Anuradha Koirala requested the PM to take concrete steps for stopping trafficking in girls, and in return, the PM reassured to form concrete policies for the same.
