Nearly eight months after the massive earthquake struck, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited Barpak to meet quake survivors on Thursday (December 17, 2015).

During his visit to inquire about their situation, PM Oli laid the foundation stone of a drinking water and sanitation project for the quake survivors there. He announced that the government would provide a grant of Rs 200,000 to the quake survivors and a loan of Rs 1.5 million against collateral.

PM expressed further commitments to the people and place that an ‘Earthquake Monument’ would soon be constructed and the road stretching up to Barpak would be blacktopped within two years. For additional help, PM Oli also promised to avail ambulance services to the quake survivors at the earliest.

On the occasion, PM Oli also said that Barpak would be reconstructed as per the plan to develop it as an integrated settlement. The project is going to be constructed at a budget of Rs 30.5 million with the support of the Care Nepal.

PM Oli has now left for Chhekampar in northern Gorkha to inquire about the condition of the quake survivors as well as roads leading up to Tibet.

His schedule is also said to include visits to Karauja VDC in northern Gorkha after Chhekampar as disclosed by Chief District Officer, Uddav Timalsina.
