Nepali singer Yam Baral was arrested for gambling from Lainchaur-based Casino Venus early Friday morning, June 14.

Baral, who was caught from the casino situated at the premises of The Malla Hotel at 5am, was kept at Hanumandhoka police station for a few hours before being shifted to Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, for further inquiry. The police also seized some cash from the singer during the raid which was coordinated by a team from Durbarmarg. Nepalis are prohibited from entering casinos.

Baral, who lives in the US, had returned to Kathmandu recently. According to NepalNews, before moving to the US, he was reportedly having financial troubles with a bank putting his house for auction for not repaying the loan. Baral will probably be the second music artiste to be arrested by the police this year. Fellow singer Sugam Pokharel also ended up behind bars for possession and use of drugs in February.
