Sound of Jazz In The Capital

The biggest jazz party in the Himalayas, Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 9th Kathmandu Jazz Festival 2011 concluded on October 25, Wednesday. Every year, the event sees jazz artistes from different corners of the globe come together and bring the valley alive with the sound of jazz music.

This edition of the music festival took place for six days and featured a number of international bands as well as some homegrown talent who performed at various venues around the city.  The Cuban League from USA, Bconnected from Switzerland, Sweden’s Neighbourhood, and Nick Aggs from Australia all shared the stage. And they were joined by our own Cadenza Collective, KJC Faculty Combo, Gandharva, and Eastern Classical Trio.

In order to provide platform to the budding local talents, the Jazzmandu team this year organized a competition as part of their day one theme Jazz For The Next Generation. It was won by the band All My Friends.

They also conducted their annual masterclasses/workshops in which the audience could interact with the guest band regarding their musicality.
