The start of the tourist season in Pokhara has witnessed a significant surge in the number of tourists enthusiastic of trying paragliding while on their visit to Nepal. A long queue of thrill seekers can be seen every morning on Sarangkot hilltop from where the adventure takes flight.

Altogether16 companies have been providing the service in 4 to 6 schedules each day to over 400 tourists wanting to paraglide.

Nepal Airsport Association (NAA) General Secretary Sobit Baniya says, “It is getting too crowded now. Tourists have to wait for a long time for their turn to glide in the sky.” He added that almost 50% of the paragliders these days are Chinese. And the Chinese are also the most important contributors for the boom in their business.

According to Prabin Gautam, manager at Avia Club, service providers had to increase the numbers of flights due to the increasing crowd. “We had conducted the flights in four schedules last year in this season. However, we are already operating flights in six schedules in the beginning of this season.”
This is very encouraging news for the tourism industry of Nepal which is only just recovering from the damage caused to the industry from14 years of armed conflict.
