According to a statement released by the embassy on Wednesday, the film festival is being conducted in Nepal as a part of the embassy’s annual cultural activities.  These films have become a medium to represent Israel, its people, languages, culture, values and traditions to its audiences in Nepal.

“Israel, though small in size, Israeli society is rich and vivid and so is the Israeli film industry.  It has undergone major developments since its inception in 1950s,” said the statement.

“Israel’s unique cultural, political, religious, and historical landscape provides an exceptionally fertile resource for the country’s film industry – an industry that is gaining an increasing international respect for the quality production.”

The films that will be screened in Kathmandu and Pokhara are selected very carefully so as to provide a variety of choices to the audiences. The Embassy has selected some heart touching, near to reality films, which the Embassy is sure, the audiences would love.  However, only three best films will be screened this year.

On 20 June 2014, the Israeli film festival will be held at Russian Cultural Center, Kamal Pokhari, Kathmandu.  And to give a taste of the Israeli films to a new city, these three films will be taken to Pokhara for screening on 27 June 2014 at Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gaira Patan, Pokhara.

The three films to be screened include: The Human Resources Manager, Restoration and The Matchmaker.

Israel has been nominated for many Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.  In the first decade of the 21st century, several Israeli films won awards in film festivals around the world.
