Yeti Airlines hands over donation cheques to 4 social organizations

Yeti Airlines has given Rs 845,564 to four social organizations under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) at a program in the capital on Monday.

Yeti Airlines is donating Rs 4 per flight ticket to Child Workers´ in Nepal (CWIN), United Mission to Nepal (UMN), Centre for Victims of Torture Nepal (CVICT) and Save the Children.

The airlines handed over a cheque of Rs 210,141 each to these organizations which are working in the field of child rights, human rights, poverty alleviation, and empowerment among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pradeep Bikram Shah, director of the sales and marketing department of the airline, said, “The amount is as per our commitment for the period of April to September 2011.” He further said that the company is contributing whatever it can to support and encourage these organizations to go the extra mile.

With this, the airline has donated over Rs 8.1 million under CSR. It donated Rs 1 million to Nepal Orthopedic Hospital last year for the construction of its building.

Besides making donations to social organizations, Yeti has also started a Green Project in June 2010. The airline plans to plant over 100,000 trees out of which 66,231 tress have already been planted under this campaign.

“For every passenger who flies with us on the Kathmandu-Dhangadi-Kathmandu or Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Kathmandu, we set aside Rs 20 on each one-way ticket,” Vinaya Shakya, Senior Manager at Yeti Airlines, said. This way, the airline will keep on adding trees as per the number of passengers flying in these routes.

Shakya further said the accumulated fund goes to meet the expenses in planting appropriate tree saplings in several of the targeted community forests in Far-Western region in collaboration with local partners Raaika Tours and Travels, Tiger Mountain and District Road Support Programme.

The airline is also providing 50 percent discount to disabled people, 25 percent discount to senior citizens and 33 percent discount in all the sectors like Bhadrapur, Tumlingtar, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Bharatpur, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Dhangadi to and from Kathmandu, which are served by Jetstream-41 aircraft.
