Things have been few improvements made in the capital’s public transportation that is otherwise usually congested, inefficient and slow. A private company has introduced 39 new metro buses which will make rounds of the Ring Road circling Kathmandu and Lalitpur cities.
The public buses, introduced by Mahanagar Yatayat Pvt Ltd, were launched amid a programme on Sunday (March 13, 2016). According to vice-chairman of the company Santosh Khatiwada, these are high-tech metro buses which have modern facilities like WiFi and TV and security features like closed-circuit cameras. The vehicles are said to have female hosts.
The company has reportedly invested Rs 160 million in these buses with each one costing around Rs4.2 million as told by Khatiwada to a national daily.
The vehicles are Tata Starbus Ultra buses having 30 seats and can carry up to 50 passengers in total. The buses are fitted with pneumatic passenger door and have LCD screen and GPS system for location tracking.
Moreover, the operator has announced to launch a smart phone app through which people can check the location of buses near them online.
