Third Week of January

My, oh, my! Third week of January already? By this time, half the people who had resolutions have probably decided it’s too hard to proclaim and quit, while the other half have accomplished whatever it was they planned to do in “twenty-ten”. If you guys don’t know yet, I published my first novel, Mortals: Hayden Roux Chronicles last summer at age thirteen. My resolution is to hopefully have my next novel published before December 31, 2010, or atleast before I finish the tenth grade. (Yes-I’m currently in the ninth grade!) So far my resolution is working out pretty decently.

Just for readers at dfwnepal, a little insider: I plan on writing 250-300 pages for this novel, entitled No Boy’s Land. So far I’ve written about one-fifth of it: fifty pages. No Boy’s Land is a story for all ages about a boy with autism and the troubles he has everyday just trying to adjust to our “normal” world. Life isn’t easy as 1+1, you know. Sometimes you have to do long division, as well.

So, for my blog this week, is a little motivation to all the people who have decided to quit the third week into January. There still is 49 more weeks left to finish your goals. You. Can. Do. It.

My post today will be about how far humanity has developed, not just from our cavemen days, but also even from the Beatlemania phase. (*Beatlemania is used to describe die-hard fans of the 1960’s mega-star group, the Beatles.) Let’s start out, shall we? Buckle your seatbelt and hold on tight; I’m taking you in a funducational journey.

First up in our ride: the telephone. Invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1800’s, the telephone has withheld many stages. Now affectionately called just a “phone,” it looks sleeks and shiny. Many decades ago, it was anything but that. Proof? Here is Alexander Graham Bell with the first prototype of the tele.

Then, we slowly faded into the 90’s:

And our modern phone:

Now, not only do we have the sleek phone, but the cell phone, as well, for use practically ANYWHERE!

But not only this, we’ve created some of the coolest things, just because we never gave up!

Now, not only have we improved everything around us,we’ve improved something in us. Our brain!

Oops! Wrong picture! 😀 Anyways, no I’m not saying that we’ve got a bigger brain than what the size was back in 1910. We use more of our brain and become effciently smarter! I bet you a hundred bucks you can read the next thing I’m about to write, right?

Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

I say you owe me a hundred bucks now. Just kidding. On the next one, I will give you guys a bunch of words. The words will be in different colors. DON’T say the word. Say the color. For example, the first one is green, not yellow. Try it!

Word of the Week

Gaeta (n.)

1. a seaport in W central Italy, on the Gulf of Gaeta off the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Fun Challenge

If you haven’t already made a resolution, go make one! Post if you can what your resolution is. If you have demolished it, try and make it happen again. Remember, nothing is impossible! If you’ve fulfilled your goal, try making another one, possibly one that’s harder to obtain so that when you finally reach the end, the sweet smell of victory will wrap you up in a warm embrace.

  1. Inspiring post, Bhabika! I loved that one paragraph where you scrambled the letters. I’ve always wondered how I could read the words without the letters in proper order. sometimes, when I’m typing I mix up the letters but I don’t notice when I read it over. I guess this is why! 🙂
